Alex Mistério

My Story

As an accomplished and passionate individual, Alex Mistério has a diverse background that includes a combination of military service, dance, and music. Born in Brooklyn, NY to a Panamanian father and Puerto Rican mother and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Alex's early years were filled with a love for sports and music. Despite being shy and introverted in school, he eventually found his calling in the armed forces, where he attended a high school military program and became the county champion in marksmanship and biathlon in 2005.

In 2010, Alex enlisted in the United States Air Force and has been serving on active duty ever since. While in service, Alex discovered his love for Kizomba music, a genre that he initially found unimpressive. However, in 2015, he took his first Kizomba, Salsa, and Bachata classes in Washington, D.C., driving three hours round trip to attend. By 2016, Alex had discovered his passion for Kizomba, and began to learn about its rich history and African roots.

Over the years, Alex has traveled worldwide to train, teach, and share his knowledge of Kizomba and its cultural significance. He has taught and DJ'd for over 100 unique organizations such as DCBX and American Idol, specializing in African, Latin, and Caribbean music. With over six years of teaching experience, Alex is dedicated to disseminating Kizomba culture and promoting personal growth. Known as DJ Mistério, he has become a respected figure in the dance community and is committed to bringing the beauty of Kizomba music to new audiences.
